Sebastiano Lava was Born 1986 in Locarno, Switzerland.
He holds a bachelor (Bachelor in medicine, B Med, 2009) and a master (Master in medicine, M Med, 2012) degree in medicine (marks: A, A, A), as well as a bachelor (BA Mus: Bachelor of Arts in music performance, 2008) and a master (MAS Mus: Master of Advanced Studies in music performance and interpretation, 2010, achieved "with honours") degree in piano.
He obtained his MD (Medicinae Doctor) at the University of Bern in 2012 and specialized in Paediatrics in Bellinzona and Bern.
After serving as a
consultant paediatrician at the University Children’s Hospital of Berne (2017-2018), he specialized in Paediatric Cardiology at the University Children's Hospitals of Bern and Lausanne (2021), as well as in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology in Paris and London (Master of Science of the EU-GRiP project, University Tor Vergata, Rome, 2016). Furthermore, he received specific training in Paediatric Nephrology and arterial hypertension in Milan (Postgraduate Master, Università degli Studi di Milano, 2018).
He followed an advanced fellowship in heart failure, cardiomyopathies, heart transplant and cardiovascular function at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, London (2021-2023), followed by a period as a
honorary locum consultant in cardiology and heart failure/transplant at the same institution (2023-2024), as well as a period as a
Visiting scientist in clinical pharmacology and quantitative methodologies (modelling and simulation, pharmacokinetics) at the University College of London (2023-2024). During this time, he has been
Visting lecturer at this same institution.
Sebastiano Lava is author or co-author of >140 peer-reviewed medical articles (
PubMed), lectures extensively in Switzerland, United Kingdom and Italy, supervises numerous master and doctoral students, is regularly invited as referee from several peer-reviewed journals, is Associate Editor of
Eur J Pediatr and
Front Cardiovasc Med, Section-Editor-in-Chief for Pediatric Cardiology of
Children, Executive Editor of
Br J Clin Pharmacol, and Editorial board member of
Cardiol Ther. He has supervised >25 MMed and MD theses.
